New Navigation for the Cato Management Application (EA)

This article discusses the new navigation menu structure for the Cato Management Application (CMA).

Note

Note: This is an Early Availability (EA) feature that is only available for limited release. For more information, contact your Cato Networks representative or send an email to ea@catonetworks.com.

Overview of the New CMA Navigation Menus

The CMA is the single management console to monitor traffic and configure settings in your Cato account. Starting in Sept 2024, we are changing the grouping and ordering of the navigation menus in CMA to help increase admin efficiency and streamline workflows.

The CMA menus are built around the core themes of Security, Access, and Network and they contain the relevant monitoring and configuration pages. The new navigation is based on a logical flow for CMA admin activities - monitoring traffic and activity, and configuration changes. For example, admins can monitor security activities in the Threats Dashboard page and then allowlist traffic that is false-positive in the Anti-Malware and IPS configuration pages under the Security menu. In addition, there is a new Home menu with pages that are useful across multiple themes to help you fully leverage Cato's converged SASE platform.

Understanding the Menus

The following are some general guidelines for understanding how the new menus are organized:

  • The Home menu contains pages with cross-platform information that spans multiple domains and themes

  • The Network, Security, and Access menus contain both monitoring and configuration pages for the relevant policies and features

  • The Collections menu includes items and objects that are used across the themes, such as: Groups, Detection & Response Policy, and Catalogs

  • The Account menu contains pages relevant to account management and administration

Note

Note: The new navigation menus have no impact on RBAC role scopes. The page permissions for all predefined and custom roles remain the same. However, when you open the settings for a role on the Roles & Permissions page, the pages are shown organized according to the new menus.

Changing to the New Navigation

Until Nov. 3, 2024, you can control which navigation you use with a toggle switch in CMA.

To change your navigation preference:

  • On the top menu bar in CMA, click the Try New Navigation toggle to switch between the original and new navigation menus.

Your menu preference is saved in your browser. Next time you use CMA with the same browser, your preferred menu settings are applied.

Searching for a Page

Use the CMA search menu to find a page in the search bar or by browsing the menu contents.

How Can I Provide Feedback?

We strongly encourage our customers to provide feedback, including what you like about the new navigation and suggestions for improvements. You can provide feedback through these channels:

  • In the CMA banner announcing the new navigation, click the Submit Feedback link

  • In the CMA Help menu, use the Send Feedback option

  • Schedule a call with a Cato Product Manager, contact us at

When are these Changes Happening?

To help customers with the transition to the new navigation and to collect your feedback to help us improve, we are rolling out the new CMA navigation over several phases.

First, there will be an Early Availability (EA) for interested customers. Then we will start General Availability (GA) and the original navigation will be the default setting. Then we change the default behavior to show the new navigation menus. During these phases, you will have the option to toggle between the original and new navigation.

Finally, we will remove the toggle, and you will only be able to use the new CMA navigation.

These are the details for the rollout phases:

  • Sept. 4, 2024 - EA: Available for interested customers. During the EA, the default navigation remains the original version, and you can use a toggle switch in CMA to try the new navigation.

If you want to participate in the EA program and try out the new navigation, contact your Cato Networks representative or send an email to ea@catonetworks.com.

  • Sept. 8, 2024 - GA (default - original): All customers can try out the new navigation. The default remains the original version, and you can use a toggle switch in CMA to try the new navigation.

  • Oct. 6, 2024 - GA (default - new): Cato changes the default to the new navigation, and you can use the toggle switch to revert to the original version.

  • Nov. 3, 2024 - GA (only new navigation): The CMA only shows the new navigation menus, the original menus are no longer available.

Note

Note: The dates above are subject to change.
